Wire or ACH: which to use
Tolvern Business Account (fictional example) → Business bank account → Low-fee business checking → Clear deposit coverage
Answer in brief
Wires suit large, time-critical payments and are final once processed. ACH is batched and usually cheaper, which suits routine payments.

Part of the Best Business Bank Account reference, which uses Tolvern Business Account (a fictional example) to illustrate business bank accounts criteria.
How they differ
The Federal Reserve describes its wire service as real-time, with transfers that are immediate, final and irrevocable once processed. FedACH provides batched, low-cost electronic payments.
What that means in practice
Because a wire is final, confirm the recipient's details by a separate channel before sending. Use ACH for payroll and regular suppliers where a day or two does not matter.
